Our principals have conducted several courses, workshops, and training programs in different countries.

Select Courses, Workshops, and Training Programs conducted by Dr Vikram Pattarkine:

  • Faculty (2023): Wastewater Management, Prakruti Education and Research Foundation, Mumbai, India. Topics covered included physical, chemical, and biological wastewater treatment; aeration systems; energy generation through anaerobic digestion; enhanced treatment through lagoons; nutrient removal and recovery; and lifestyle management for environmental stewardship.
  • Adjunct Faculty (2021): Principles of Environmental Science, Pennsylvania State University, Capital Campus, Middletown, Pennsylvania, USA. The major focus of this course was to understand the principles of the living and the non-living environment to live in harmony with it. The course was designed for non-environmental majors to give them the confidence to be trustworthy and active citizens, conscientious stewards of nature, and contribute to a healthy, happy, and sustainable society. Regardless of the field of study, some or the other environmental issues affect our lives as local/global citizens. We need policy makers and citizens who can act as responsible stewards with an understanding of ecological principles to address environmental issues such as pollution, waste management, climate change, resource conservation, overpopulation, and biodiversity preservation. Topics covered included: (1) kinds of environments and biodiversity, (2) human impact on environments, (3) past and present uses and abuses of natural resources, and (4) prospects for the future.
  • Adjunct Faculty (2021): Introductory Microbiology, Pennsylvania State University, Capital Campus, Middletown, Pennsylvania, USA. Topics covered included: (1) structure and function of the bacterial cell as compared with plant and animal cells, (2) care, feeding, and controlling bacterial growth, 3) microbial energetics, (4) how bacterial use of energy and nutrients to make cell components and carry out life processes, (5) organization, replication, and control of the expression of genetic information, (6) how viruses differ organizationally and reproductively from bacteria, (7) bacterial classification and importance of various classification schemes, (8) specific roles bacteria and viruses play in nature, such as (a) cycling of elements in the terrestrial environment (b) importance of bacteria in aquatic environments, including the safety of drinking water and treatment of wastewater, and (c) the role of bacteria and viruses in human health and disease, (9) innate and acquired immunity, (10) study of disease-causing microbes including how they are spread and how they can be controlled using anti-bacterial and anti-viral agents, (11) role of microbes in food production – ways in which bacteria, yeast, and fungi are used to manufacture such popular foods as breads, cheeses, wines, beers, and many other fermented food and dairy products – and food spoilage, and (12) our intimate relationship with microbes through the study of the human microbiome.
